Janine, Ainsley & Shannon were excited to attend the Gathering in Edinburgh with SCVO, last week.
There was a buzz in the air as hundreds of third sector employees and volunteers came together to network and learn at the EICC.
Dozens of seminars gave us the chance to split up to learn and be inspired by what's happening in Scotland in the charity sector. There were sessions around every subject, from the future of charities, charity law and supporting young people to finance and funding.
It was great to see so many people from charities across Scotland. Sometimes, when you work for a small charity, it can feel lonely and scary but seeing us all come together helped me to feel inspired and excited about working and helping people change their lives in our community.
Janine and Ainsley headed to the first seminar of the day to brush up on their evaluation skills and connect with lots of groups. It was a great chance to hear good practise from other organisations and see where we're doing a good job and where we can improve.

Shannon attended the workshop around changing the story and working to resolve children in poverty.
There was lots to think about but it's clear that here at MOP, we help people to ensure their children feel safe, happy and loved.
We were thrilled to finally meet Close the Gap in person at their stall in the exhibition. We're so excited to be beginning our Equally Safe at Work accreditation. For this reason, Janine also headed to the seminar led by the Young Women's Network, on supporting young women in the workplace.
I was recently invited to join some of my colleagues, at this event. I found this experience very informative and an opportunity to link with other charity/third sector organisations who work within Scotland.

During lunch we wandered around the exhibition hall, chatting with vendors and networking with other charities. It was interesting to see what's happening with other groups. We also enjoyed the entertainment that was laid on, before heading to the next round of seminars and workshops.
All in all, it was a really interesting day. It's so important that we attend these days as they help us to network, improve our learning and CPD and also give us the lift and inspiration we sometimes need, when working hard wears us down.
The SCVO gathering is an essential event for anyone looking to stay informed about the charity sector. I spent my day focusing on the crucial behind-the-scenes aspects of the job, such as accounting, numbers, and legal matters. It's imperative to understand these elements to effectively navigate the challenges we face in the field.
